This is my seventh year residing in Iowa. I'm not certain if this is will be my permanent home, only time will tell. I grew up in Illinois, spent sixteen years of my life there before moving to Minnesota in 2000. I lived in Minnesota briefly for approximately three years before settling in Iowa in 2003.
Before becoming a photographer my art capabilities consisted primarily of fine art portraiture work. Drawing and painting had pretty much been the priority in my life until I fell in love with photography. Briefly I had considered a career as a tattoo artist, however shortly after this endeavour is when I began my first series of portrait work in photography. Not only did I enjoy photography immensely it turns out I was also considered 'good' at what I did.
I'm still in the beginning stages of my career and apparently am considered modest about my work. Personally, I feel that I still have a lot to learn about photography. It is not that I am in confident about my work, it's that I am honest in realizing that over-confidence could only hurt me as a photographer. If I felt that I had learned everything I could, I would feel that I had no more room to grow and this could considerably render my capabilities as a professional photographer.
As far as the type of photographer I am, I would say that I am modern and am always looking for a new creative edge. The most important part of photography to me (other than understanding my camera) is setting myself apart from my competition. I also enjoy replicating a vintage look or vintage themed photography, when I have time for a 'hobby' this is the work I enjoy doing the most as I am a huge fan of 1950's photography.
Above all else, I am a mother to two beautiful children and I enjoy spending as much of my spare time with them as I can. If there's anything else you would like to know about me, ask... I tend to be a bit of an open book.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Crystal
