I've battled back and forth with this decision, however ultimately I feel like it's the best overall decision for myself and for my clients.
Some of you may have noticed that I have been going through the process of restructuring my business. Because I believe strongly that my main goal is to disperse work that you can proudly hang on your wall I have decided to get rid of session fees and go back to having collection fees that include print credit. I feel like I made this as simple as possible by narrowing down the options to only a few flat rates.
Here are some things you should know:
1. The collection fee {or retainer} will be a set amount paid prior to the session that includes a small 'save the date' fee and print credit - this can be paid in one lump sum OR you have the option to make payments.
2. I have decreased the fee of 'saving the date' and allowed most of the money you put in to the retainer to go towards print sales.
3. The collections such as 'Belly to Baby', 'Baby's 1st Year', etc are still available to clients and the print pricing has NOT changed since the last time it was updated.
4. I have not removed the option to purchase digital files, however I still have print requirements that must be made before purchasing these. I have also opened up the option to pay for individual digital files, however again the print credit must be utilized towards prints.
The reason for this change is I feel that the session fees weren't giving my clients anything substantial to show for the session they paid for. I.E. - It only included time & save the date, but didn't provide you with anything other than an online proofing album and my primary goal as a photographer is to get quality portraits in to the homes of my clients.
I feel that somewhere along the line I had lost sight of my ultimate goal and at the time I felt I would be simplifying options for my clients however what I discovered is the encouragement of prints somehow became lost in this process. I cannot stress to you enough the importance I feel within that you see the value in not just a portrait that is considered ''good'' but how beautiful it is when presented to you in the right form.
The best way I can explain it, is to just show you:
{This is an online sample, not my work.}
Now to some, this isn't a big deal ... but I urge you to ''take off your mommy goggles" {a term I've stolen from a popular blog with the same title} and truly look at these prints in comparison. I am not making changes to pull one over on you and I am not encouraging professional prints because of greed... I am doing it to ensure that your photographs look beautiful all the way from my camera, to your computer screen, and most importantly in to your home.
If you have any questions about the changes, comments, concerns. Please - I urge you to contact me and talk about it in person. Again, this change also comes with the option to pay the retainer in increments and I have also put it as my GUARANTEE that if you are not satisfied with your portraits I will refund you 50% of all sales.
Thank you for your time.
