Wedding Photo Tips! | Suggestions!

Lately, I have weddings on the brain 24/7!
How can I improve your experience?
How can WE make sure you are getting the photos you want?
What are some AWESOME photo-ops that YOU should taken advantage of?

I've put together a list of photo tips and suggestions that I hope help you when planning your wedding day photography!

#1. Allow us TIME & put yourselves first!

Never assume you can cram a multitude of portraits in a small window of time, while it's possible ... it could prove to be quite stressful and if your schedule runs over you could potentially be cutting in to the very reason you hired a professional : their creative portraiture.

Never allow an abundant amount of time for pictures of everyone else, but you. The wedding day is about YOU the bride & groom. We're to be celebrating your union and these are your portraits. Allow yourselves the time you need to get portraits that include the two of you. If you must cut time, start with the family formals... they can hire a photographer later for family portraits. ;) I know one! :)

#2. Consider a first look!

I know, I am beating a dead horse with this one... but honestly, first looks are AWESOME! They're more intimate, more photogenic, more amazing... need I say more?

#3. Have fun!

Because.... why not have fun? The opposing doesn't sound like any fun at all. ;) ;)

#4. Do a grand exit!

First of all, it's a GREAT photo opportunity and it's also a way to move your guests along to the next location or next part of the wedding day etc and... did I mention it's a great photo-op?

#5. Think outside the box! For instance, have you seen the amazing things that can be done with sparklers? These would make PERFECT night time portraits?

#8. If you haven't booked a photographer yet, be sure to see their work inside churches where lighting can be challenging!

Lighting in churches can prove to be challenging for photographers, it's important to remember that many churches {if not all} have "House Rules" where the photographers are not allowed to use flash during the ceremony {and more importantly, we don't want to use flash during ceremonies to ensure there are no distractions}, being able to shoot in these conditions is key. Of course, a well lit church is ALWAYS a plus!

#9.  Consider doing formals outdoors!

Outdoor formals, yes please! Good lighting, amazing backdrops - outdoor formals are the way to go!

#10. Indoor formals aren't bad either! Consider your background for indoor formals, something aesthetically pleasing will always make for good portraits. :)

#11. Have your photographer there when you're {the bride} getting ready!

#12. Consider your venues!

Whenever I consider a location, I always say "how will this look in a photograph?" No matter how hard we try, it is much much much much MUCH easier to make the photograph aesthetically pleasing with an aesthetically pleasing venue.

#13. Never skip the 'free engagement portraits'!

I hear this a lot : "We had another photographer do our engagement portraits, but we like your wedding photography - can we not do that?" Well.. you CAN, I can't make you but it is a use it or lose it option, may as well use it!  :) Chances are, if you aren't confident in the other person's wedding photography, you likely aren't that fond of their engagement portraits either. Engagement portraits are a great opportunity to get to know your photographer... and we can great some amazing photographs too!
