This may be long, but these are great questions!!
1. How long have you been photographing weddings?
Five years. Although, I can fully admit that I should have waited to start photographing weddings - weddings are a completely different ballpark & even though I'd been a second photographer on weddings before I was a primary, the first one was terrifying & looking back, I now know I was too inexperienced to be taking on weddings alone.
2. How many weddings have you photographed?
I have photographed about 40? & I have booked 60+. 2015 will be my biggest wedding season to date, so I'll be focusing almost all my energy on weddings this year.
3. Do you have a portfolio of a recent wedding you shot from start to finish & can I see it?
I LOVE this question personally and I think this is something everyone should be asking for! I would gladly show a potential bride a full album of photographs.
4. How would you describe your wedding photography style?
I'd definitely say documentary. I want to help tell YOUR story - not "insert bride here".
5. How would you describe your working style?
I'm sort of a blend between organized & candid. So, while I always have an itinerary & a shot list, I also photograph things as they unfold. During formals I am definitely commanding a lot of attention (in a fun way!), as I need whomever is in the photograph to look at me, however during the other events of the day, I just kind of watch and photograph what I see.
6. What do you think makes your work distinct?
When I look at my work, I find that it's very romantic. I am a passionate human being and I'm also raw and very real - I think that shows through in my work.
7. What type of equipment do you use?
I'm a Nikon gal. I shoot primarily with a D610 & have a wide variety of lenses, which I know means nothing - but I have a decent set up & I make what I have work for me. Oh & Nikon fo' life!
8. Can I give you a list of shots I'd like?
Absolutely - Often times these lists are compiled of things I'd naturally shoot, but there's always a possibility that something I'd normally photograph, you may not want or there may be something you want that is new for me. So I definitely encourage a shot list, in fact... I will send you a template to fill out.
9. Do you charge travel fees?
Yes, it's .55 cents a mile for anything over a 25 mile radius and .25 cents a mile for anything over a 100 mile radius.
10. What packages do you offer?
I have a basic collection, a premium collection, & an elite collection. This sort of runs on the scale of a low, middle, high option.
11. Can I customize my package based on my needs?
You can, I'm certainly open to discussion.
12. Do you include engagement photos in your wedding collections?
Absolutely! I want to get to know you before the wedding!
13. How much of a deposit is due & when? Do you do a payment plan?
The deposit is due 7 days after confirming that you are booking, it is 1/3 of the total balance. I do payment plans yes, when the collection is over a specific $ amount.
14. How long after the wedding will I see the proofs? Will they be viewable online?
This depends on the time of year & how many weddings I have that month. A lot of companies who photograph a lot of weddings actually outsource their editing & this is why they are able to provide a shorter turn around, I however - do not at this time and I do all of the editing myself. I'm incredibly meticulous, this can be a lengthy process. When it's the peak of my wedding season, you should expect them no later than 8 weeks after your wedding date. & yes, they will be viewable online.
15. Do you have backup equipment? What about a backup plan if you are unable to shoot?
I do have backup equipment & I would highly recommend adding a second photographer to your package in the event something does happen to me, this way we have someone to take over.
16, Is it okay for other people to take photos while you're taking photos?
I don't mind at all, so long as they don't step in front of me to get the shot - which actually has happened, haha.
17, What time do you arrive at the event & how long do you shoot for?
I sit down with every bride and come up with an itinerary that works for them, so I don't have a designated time - I come up with one with the bride that will work for us both & I typically shoot 8 hour events, however I have and will photograph up to 12 hours of your wedding day if you'd like.
18. If I'd like you to stay longer than expected the day of the event will there be an extra charge?
It depends on how much later time runs over, if it's only over by 15 mins - then we will stay at no charge. However for additional hours, we would require an extra charge - yes.
19. How far in advance do we need to book you?
I usually start booking weddings about a year, sometimes more - in advance. I will always start booking the popular months: June, July, September, & October well over a year in advance. If your wedding falls in these months, you should be checking out vendors well in advance.
20. What information will you need from me before the wedding day?
I typically have couples fill out all of their contact information, or if there is an event planner and/or someone in charge of itineraries - I will ask for their contact information as well, I'll also have couples provide names of their immediate family & the wedding party so that I can attempt to get some names in the day of the wedding, an itinerary is a must have - we will do this together typically, a shot list - specifically how many formals there may be so we can plan the time accordingly, a heads up on anything out of the ordinary that I should know about & that's .. really about it.
Hope these questions helped you! & if you have any further questions at all, please feel free to ask!
